Alghero

Alghero, an ancient Catalan town, is one of the most important tourism destinations in the Mediterranean. Famous for being the tourism capital of the Coral Riviera, it has enjoyed centuries of popularity with holidaymakers the world over.

The town boasts an enchanting, unique, rare historical centre. You can admire the historical streets, the ancient Aragonese buildings, the defence towers, the Bastions (the old walls that protected the town), and an infinite variety of religious monuments.

Then, as you wander through the little streets, you can pause to admire the boutique windows, the many shops and workshops selling Sardinian craftsmanship and filled with coral, that stay open until late in the evening, giving you plenty of opportunity for shopping.

Alghero offers entertainment for younger visitors too, with a spacious green area and specific area given over to climbing frames and the like.

Curious tourists should take a trip on the pretty ‘Catalan train’ or ‘Lu Tren de l’Alguer’ is it is known in the local tongue, which will take you towards the old part of town, giving explanations along the way.

The more romantic can enjoy a pleasant wander on the ‘Cocchio’, a town tour aboard a horse-drawn carriage.

Finally, for the sportier amongst you, you can always hire a bicycle and visit the town as you please.

Ride along the Lungomare Dante, on the cycle path of Busquet port, until reaching the Alghero beaches... a relaxing and entertaining experience that is second to none.
